Dormice are protected in the UK. If your project is on a site which has woodland, scrub, Bramble and hedgerow habitat, you may need to undertake a survey. 

Reptiles are partially protected in the UK. If your project is on a site which has semi-natural habitats, you may need to undertake a survey. 

Great Crested Newts are protected in the UK. If your project is on a site which has ponds within the red line boundary or there are ponds within 250-500m of your site, you may need to undertake a survey. 

Ecology surveys are seasonally constrained with different surveys best undertaken during different months. Essential Ecology's survey calendar provides a handy guide to survey timings and can be downloaded here (but remember to always seek advice from a professional ecologist!)
